A Woman's Perspective ~ Home Plan Makeover
Dee found her ideal home plan; she made a few tweaks and now it’s perfect!
Homeowner's Profile: Dee and Pat are retired empty nesters. Dee's father passed away last year and her mother, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, will be moving in with them. Dee wanted a home
that allowed her mother's space to be private, yet close enough in proximity that she could be heard if there was a problem. Both Dee and Pat are from large families and they frequently host family gatherings. They wanted an
open space for entertaining, plus an area for crafts and projects.

Modifications Dee made to the Springvale, #5506:
-
Enlarged the garage to provide more storage space and created a separate rear foyer into the home, which includes a drop zone and coat closet.
-
Created a large laundry with a craft/project station.
-
Converted the porch space to add extra room for dining. Opened the dining room to the kitchen and eliminated the breakfast area in order to maximize the kitchen, which now features a long island and a hutch for Dee's antique crystal and china.
-
Added columns between the dining area and great room and moved the fireplace to the corner of the great room, where it's visible in the kitchen and dining room.
-
Converted Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 3 to an apartment suite that includes a living room, bedroom and full bath.
-
Enlarged the master suite in order to add a large spa shower. The new configuration features a linen closet inside the master suite and a larger toilet space, so a urinal could be added at one end.
