HER HOME MAGAZINE HELPS WOMEN DECISION MAKERS

Publication Builds Knowledge Among Home Buying Readers

OMAHA, NE -- (August 2003) – Women interested in building a home now have a magazine carrying essential knowledge needed to make critical decisions relating to the home’s construction. Her Home, a quarterly magazine dedicated to women making such decisions, will be mailed to more than 55,000 people in September. The 48-page magazine is published by Design Basics, Inc., the nation’s largest home plan design service and a leading firm serving the homebuyer. Her Home’s editorial will include brightly colored, easy-to-read articles that contain helpful hints for making decisions plus recommended references and websites for in-depth information. Each issue will contain several articles relating to some aspect of constructing a new home, the role color plays in both the interior and exterior of the home, some landscaping ideas, a remodeling article and much more.

“Building a home is a major investment. Today, women are much more involved in the entire home construction process," said Linda Reimer, editor and publisher of Her Home magazine. “In fact, women make more than 80% of the home building and buying decisions. So, it seemed logical that we would create a publication just for them.” Reimer also is president of Design Basics that not only sells plans but also publishes more than 20 titles on design planning and construction. “Women want knowledge in advance of construction and all throughout the building process," Reimer said. "They need this information in order to make intelligent decisions.” Within each specific article, Her Home will include website addresses and other resources where women can get additional information.

Her Home will be mailed to 55,000 people who have purchased Design Basics’ home plans in the past and construction company customers of Design Basics. The publication also will be available via subscription.

Articles in the first issue include:

  • “Plan Now to Breathe Easy Later,” on safe air controls for a healthier home;
  • “Making a Good Plan Great,” where three women builders take a Design Basics plan and describe changes they’d make; and
  • how to use color to enhance your surroundings and express your personality.

Reimer said each issue also will feature a section titled “Sitting In” where Her Home reporters ask groups of women from around the country their opinions on topics related to "home."

“You won’t find any fashion or make-up tips in Her Home,” Reimer said. “We’re including solid, basic information that will arm women with the information they need." Her Home is one of the first publications whose editorial will be based solely on critical decisions female consumers need when building their own homes.
